Selected Notes from April, 18 2023 Meeting

1) Meeting at 7:00 PM at the church, the Board members present completed a walk-about of the church grounds and church with the following notes:
- Having met with VanKessel Masonry this past week, John M. shared the estimate they provided to repair the chimney and front brick face that is being pulled away from the building. John and Rick answered questions Board members had. More discussion to follow later in the meeting.

- The ground-level window facing east was broken with someone temporarily covering the opening with plywood from the grounds. Window glass will need to be replaced. Rick to contact Tom Molenaar to see if this repair work is possible.

- Inside the church, the ceiling tiles are flaking off which may indicate leaking or condensation from the new roof. Suggested that during a heavy rain, the attic be accessed to see if water is coming into the building.

- Toured the basement where it was suggested that a “workbee” be held one day to go through the sundry items that remain in the kitchen and the basement.
12) Church Maintenance
a) Report on VanKessel Masonry – John Molenaar
- As previously shared with the Board, discussion ensued on the need for a chimney at all at the church as the furnaces are only used once a year. Being oil furnaces, they too are limited in their lifespan. The Board suggested that we revisit the VanKessel quote and ask them to give a quote to remove the chimney altogether, but continue with the plans to repair the bricks at the front of the church, reparg, etc. Rick will contact Justin and Chris VanKessel to ask for a re-quotation of this work and report back to the Board for approval of this new quotation. The consequences of having no chimney are two-fold:
i) The two existing oil furnaces would no longer be usable. If a furnace were to be installed, it would likely be a propane furnace which would be vented through the wall of the building
ii) Should heat be required in the building, other temporary options would need to be examined – e.g electric or propane space heaters, etc.
b) Other Church Requirements from Walk-About?
- See (1) above.
c) To purchasing a large (5x7’) rubber-backed mat for the front entranceway – Rick to do.

d) Furnace servicing – not required
e) Other?
- It was suggested that the Board look at the product Kilz Premium Primer should it be necessary to paint the church ceiling to cover water marks.
